The Premier League is home to some of the world's greatest goalkeeping talents including Allison Becker of Liverpool, Manchester City's Ederson, and, of course, the young Aaron Ramsdale of title contenders, Arsenal.
Partnered with Adidas, Aaron Ramsdale currently wears the Predator Accuracy+ but what if he had his own signature design? This project looks into the club culture, Aaron's play style, and his personality to conceptualise his own unique football boots.
Ensuring the boot designs suit the Arsenal colour themes from today and the past, I created a page that allows me to reference these colours when conceptualising Aaron Ramsdale boots. It is important that the signature boots at least complement the home, away, and third kits that Ramsdale wears throughout the season, and, by picking out these key tones, you are able to create a suitable colourway for all occasions, whether the Gunners are playing at the Emirates or away from home.
Emirates Stadium is a part of the 80% of Premier League pitches that are composed of a hybrid grass system known as GrassMaster. This technology reinforces 100% natural grass with synthetic HPF fibres that are installed on the subbase and this provides an anchor on which grass roots can entwine, reinforcing the stability and uniformity of the playing surface.
Given the softer feel of Premier League pitches, players wear soft ground football boots which have fixed metal studs on the sole plate. These ensure a secure feel on this type of turf and facilitate quick movements on and off the ball.
To ensure these boots will be suitable for Aaron's requirements, I have looked into what makes his currently-worn boots so great. The Predator Accuracy+ has an upper made up of 50% recycled materials, features a laceless construction, a split outsole for soft ground playing surfaces, TPU overlays for extended durability, and a very comfortable primeknit collar. Going onwards, these elements will be incorporated into his new conceptual boots.
Given that signature boots are made to be worn not only by the professional footballer, but also consumers who may play sunday league football or perhaps casually in school. To gather people's opinions on these 16 sketches, I put them all into a voting competition on my instagram story. Here are the results:
From left to right, the winner, second place, and third place.
