My best practices for development

In my first year of study, there had been very vital lessons which allowed me to gain confidence when working on footwear whether it is on paper or in the workshop and in this post I talk about how practicing would develop my skills.

Year 1 had taught me very necessary aspects of footwear design and allowed me to develop my skills to become prepared for my second year of the foundation degree. One of the best practices that helped me out was developing a new drawing technique for a faster and more efficient design process. This new technique involved producing sole units on Adobe Illustrator, printing them out and then drawing upper designs on layout paper which is layered above the print-out of the sole units.

Since I had never used a stitching machine on leather before, it took me some time to get used to working with these machines but stitching leather is so key in these footwear designs and footwear in general so being able to improve my ability and producing my first ever shoes was one of the best practices in Year 1.
