In this read, I talk about the difficulties I had to learn from to improve my skills when creating footwear.
Like in anything new that you start, there will always be a challenge or two and for me going into my first year in studying footwear design, one of my challenges was stitching on leather for my first time ever. The last time I had actually worked with textiles since coming on to a university course was most likely in the early years of secondary school so being re-introduced to a stitching machine felt like this was completely my first time using one and since this was actually my first time using a stitching machine on leather, I had to get used to controlling the leather so that the stitching would be neat and orderly but this takes a lot of time and practice.
It is one thing to draw a nice shoe on paper but its another to know exactly how that shoe would be made and this is a challenge that I had in Year 1. It took time to sit down and figure out exactly the sequence of operations simply by looking at components of the shoe that I had drawn up.
